I do not understand time.
I was told once by a medical professional that this is not unusual, that many people struggle with the concept of times, sometimes for their whole lives. These are often the people who are running into class late, always miss the bus, and never seem to meet you when you ask them too. It is frustrating to deal with those people, to deal with the mes of the world, because time is precious. Time is fleeting. Time is running out.
Right?
Well, what is time? The word implies a set standard. That time is something set, such as thirty minutes or three hours. The word is solid and concrete, and therefore easy to see and understand. If you say be their at 9 pm, 915 would be late. Simple. Clear.
Not to me. I do not understand time, because time is not simple or clear. Time is relative. Time changes. Time here will not be time in a minute or if you traveled across the sea or if you were a part of a different culture. Being late or early is all dependent on circumstances and perception. We often are forced to live our lives on how OTHERS perceive time. How OTHERS define time. We create schedules around OTHERS.
I understand why. We need order and schedule. However, every once and a while, I want to create my OWN deffinition. I want to create my OWN time. I want to walk slowly in between classes instead of hurtling over those around me. I want to have time for breakfast. I want to dance more often, read more books, and always have time for the gym. I want to call me mom, everyday, and talk for an hour. I want to always go to dinner with my friends. I want to watch New Girl, when it aires. I want to stop playing catch up and stop running. I want to breathe and enjoy. I want more time, so I create it, even though that is impossible.
So yes, I will probably always be running late because I decided to grab my much appreciated morning coffee. If you say 9, I will be there by 9:05. I will do my best, but I will not live my life in a constant state of rushing, because I am in no hurry to reach the finish line.
